“Saturday Afternoon Movie with a Mission”
February 24 – 4:00pm

Caspar Community Center, 15051 Caspar Rd. Caspar

Film screening of CHASING CORAL directed by documentary film maker Jeff Orlowski and brought to you in collaboration with Citizens’ Climate Lobby.  This film follows a team of divers, photographers, and scientists as they reveal the underwater mystery of the world’s vanishing coral reefs.  A brief discussion on climate change issues near and far will follow the movie. Light refreshments including beer, wine and snacks will be provided.  Suggested Donation of $10.00 at the door.

The folks who brought forth the amazing, Oscar-nominated Chasing Ice have created a sequel, Chasing Coral. Pivoting from land to sea, it dramatically documents the “hidden” impacts of climate change on the planet’s largest animal communities — the ancient cities under the sea — coral reefs.

Join us as we view this heartbreaking documentary followed by a brief discussion of climate impact on our oceans with Randal MacDonald of Citizen’s Climate Lobby and Noyo Center for Marine Science’s Executive Director, Sheila Semans.

MacDonald will discuss how we can build political will for climate solutions at the national level, growing the US economy while dramatically reducing the carbon pollution which is harming our environment.

Then we will bring it home and Semans will discuss local changes to the kelp forest and marine life here on the Mendocino Coast, the impact of ocean warming and what can be done locally.
