Whale Skeleton Projects
The Noyo Center for Marine Science proudly and respectfully cares for two whale skeletons. Both animals washed up on the Mendocino Coast and inspired an incredible coming together of scientists, community members, students, and more to engage with science and articulation.
The orca–the world’s largest!–is on display at the Discovery Center in downtown Fort Bragg, and the blue whale bones come out once a year for viewing during the month of Whale Festivals along the Mendocino Coast. One day, we will have a facility large enough to display the complete skeleton…it will need to be more than 75 ft long!

And a huge thank you to all who helped!! It truly was a collaborative effort.
